XX – Week 1 Recap

Posted on September 13, 2023 by rkeepers1

Pack Attack (121.05) vs teamAlaska (110.75)

If you would have told me before the games were played that in Week 1 Pack Attack (1-0) would get a combined of 6.32 points from J Allen, T Higgins and D. Swift and they would win while putting up the 4th most points on the week I would have said not a chance but that’s what happened as Pack Attack gets the win thanks primarily due to TJ Watt (34pts) and the #1 overall pick of J. Jefferson who had 27.10. Pack Attack gets the nice win in a week they “shouldn’t” have won. teamAlaska (0-1) on the other side didn’t have a terrible game and had Burrow played up to expectation they likely would have walked away with the win in this one. I expect better things from both Burrow and Allen moving forward. These two teams will meet again in 13 weeks. It will be interesting to see how things look at that time.

pack slayer (129.53) vs 16hrs Ahead of You!! (97.43)

pack slayer (1-0) comes out and dominates in this one thanks to a monster game from T. Tagovailoa (33.65). They also got solid games from Olave (18.60), D Hopkins (11.45) and perhaps the most surprising of the bunch M Pittman Jr (19.45). I like Pittman, I just had my doubts on him with a rookie QB throwing him the ball but if Tua keeps playing like this and these WR’s stay solid then this team would be tough to beat.
It is rare for a team to get a total of 43.60 points total from their K, D and DEF positions and not win but that is exactly what happened this week for 16hrs ahead of you (0-1) as the rest of their team only could muster 53.83 points. I don’t mind this team and I expect better days ahead but this wasn’t the start they were looking for.

Rapids Plungers (118.35) vs Big Papa (76.52)

Rapids Plungers (1-0) comes out and does what they do best and that is win regular season games. The strategy during the draft was to go WR heavy as we talked about in the preview which seemed to pay off as both Diggs (26.10) and Smith (15.35) had solid games. What is interesting however is that despite not drafting a RB until the 6th round (which was a RB that didn’t play this week in Kamara) they were able to produce the 3rd best starting RB total on the week thanks to Allgeier (20.95) and Mostert (11.12). I don’t expect this type of output that often but with Kamara waiting in the wings the strategy seemed to be spot on.
Big Papa (0-1) didn’t have quite the same luck as mentioned they went RB heavy. Their RB’s weren’t terrible but their WR room was as they only could muster a mere 14.75 points. To make matters worse one of their better RB’s, JK Dobbins is now done for the year due to an achilles tear. Not the way the defending champs wanted to start the season but it’s week 1 and they have some time to figure it out!

BIGBOY! (88.60) vs PackerFANatic7 (87.69)

Game of the week? Well, from an exciting finish I would say we can call it that but when the scores are both below 90 I am not sure it qualifies! It was however a really good game that came right down to the wire. PackerFANatic7 (0-1) came into the Monday night game down by 8.83 points with James Cook left to play. I saw this before the game started and I considered it a true 50/50 type of scenario as we weren’t sure the workload Cook was going to have along with playing against a tough Jets D. It made for a good show as J. Cook came close and looked like he might get there but in the end finished a point short. BIGBOY! (1-0) gets the win despite having the 4th lowest scoring game on the week and that’s ok as it is a week to week business. Your goal each week is to beat that opponent and they did just that.

Bossman (107.59) vs HHH (102.01)

This was another really good game that came down to the Monday nighter. Bossman (1-0) held a solid lead but HHH (0-1) had G. Wilson remaining who many were expecting big things from this season. Wilson (12.70pts) ended up making it close but couldn’t get the 6 more points they needed to get the win. You have to wonder what things may have looked like had Rodgers not got hurt and now you have to wonder how good Wilson will be without him? Both teams were solid in this one but Bossman continues doing what they do EVERY SINGLE YEAR is they find a way to win games like these. Shootouts, low scoring games, doesn’t matter they seem to always match their opponent and if week 1 is any indication it seems things will be the same again this year and we will see them once again at or near the top of the standings.

Sportsfreak (146.16) vs DaUnderdog (71.26)

This one had to feel good for Sportsfreak (1-0)! It has been a rough few years for them but they came out and dominated in this one and are for one week sitting atop the standings! Now I know it is week 1 and they is A LOT of time to be bad OR good left in the season but you celebrate your victories when you have them and for Sportsfreak it’s time to celebrate. They were led this week by T. Hill and his ridiculous 53.47 points. It is hard to lose games when you have a guy doing that! It wasn’t all great for them however as D. Johnson looks to be out for a bit and they had 3 offensive position players fail to score over 3 points. That of course was all masked by Hill’s dominant game but something they will want to figure out going into next week.
DaUnderdog (0-1) really struggled in this one and anytime you lose your first round pick last minute to injury that can have an effect on the rest of the players. They only had one player score over 10 points in this one which led to the lowest scoring output of any team this week. The good news is that it would seem Kelce has a good shot at playing this next week and hopefully for their sake their players got their “bad” game out of their system in week 1!

Starrfavrerodg (145.51) vs U Don’t Know (93.60)

Most of the games and the outcomes made sense to me. I know I didn’t pick perfectly but how the games played out seemed about right and nothing was too surprising until I came to this game. This one surprised me and not so much that Starrfavrerodg (1-0) won but the fact that they dominated and won by over 50 points! I really expected the U Don’t Know (0-1) team led by Mahomes and J Chase to put up well over 100 points but that didn’t happen and they got their tail kicked! On the flip side, I really didn’t expect this Starrfavrerodg team to put up the numbers they did mainly because I didn’t expect the 31 point outburst from Aiyuk or the ridiculous 39 points put up by the Dallas D. To put that into perspective, the Dallas D is the #2 scoring….. I don’t even know what to call it.. position? in the entire league after week 1. The only player to score more then them was T. Hill! That type of production is clearly not sustainable however once again this is a week to week business and you take the wins however you can get them. Starrfavrerodg got the win and will move on to week 2 looking to do the same!

That’s it for this week everyone. Have a great week!
