Before I get into the preview, normally on Super Bowl week we have the Super Bowl media day where we get to hear from both coaches about the upcoming game. In the past, when I have been in the Super Bowl I have asked Steve (the coach of Bossman) to help with the interview questions for me however given the situation of him being the opposing team that doesn’t work the best! Steve is also currently on vacation so his time is limited so I thought it was best to skip it this year and instead talk a little more about the teams and then get into the normal preview. Ok, so let’s get into it!
It’s Super Bowl week and it seems rather fitting that in year 20 we have the two franchises that have been to the most Super Bowl’s in league history. This will be both teams 7th appearance in the Super Bowl. Pack Attack has the most championships in league history at 4 while Bossman has 2. These two teams have the most wins in Postseason history with Bossman at 19 and Pack Attack at 17. They also have the two highest post season winning percentages of all currently active teams which just means when they make the playoffs they usually make some noise. In addition to the post season success they are #1 and #2 in most regular season wins and #1 and #2 in the most winning seasons of all time. Ok, I think you get the point but why do I mention all this? Because this is not your average Super Bowl and these are some of the more storied franchises in the league.
These two teams have met before in the Super Bowl, it was Super Bowl IX (2012 Season) which Pack Attack went on to win by 19 points. To take you a trip down memory lane some of the players on that Pack Attack team were Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Brown, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Trent Richardson & Matt Forte for Bossman they had Cam Newton, Darren Sproles, Chris Johnson, Jason Witten and Vincent Jackson to name a few.
(1) Bossman vs (2) Pack Attack
What a great matchup this looks to be with #1 vs #2 going head to head for the title. Since we moved to a 6 team playoff back in the 2008 season only one other time has the #1 and #2 teams made it to the Super Bowl. That year it was #1 Bossman vs #2 Rapids Plungers and #2 Rapids Plungers came away with the win. Can #2 Pack Attack do the same again to Bossman or will Bossman finish the job and get Super Bowl win #3? I will go through the preview but I am not going to pick a winner at the end as I am going to let you have an opportunity to do that but I will give you my breakdown of each position per usual.
QB: Josh Allen (Pack Attack) vs J. Hurts (Bossman)
Two of the best fantasy QB’s have made it hear to the Super Bowl. In fact, these were the two best fantasy QB’s. Josh Allen finished #1 with 333.09 points while J. Hurts was a close 2nd with 305.72. There isn’t much to say here other then this position is really good for both teams and it would be easy to make a case for either QB to have the edge. Both QB’s are at home but J. Hurts is in what should be a smash spot against Arizona and the one thing NE can still do a little is play defense. I would give the edge to Bossman at QB.
WR: J. Jefferson/Tee Higgins/M. Pittman Jr (Pack Attack) vs C. Lamb/P. Nacua/N. Brown (Bossman)
There are some potential changes here depending on health of K. Allen. It doesn’t look like he will be available so I am going to assume this is the trio for both squads. Jefferson and C. Lamb are studs but Jefferson is now going to have a rookie QB throwing him the ball. Nacua is in a nice matchup against the Giants while Higgins has been solid since J. Chase went out it does look like Chase will be back so that could limit him some this week. Pittman should be back from his concussion and I like him over N. Brown. I think Pack Attack has the name recognition but this one could be a little closer then you may think. I do think Pack Attack has the edge but not by that much.
RB: K. Williams/D. Swift (Pack Attack) vs A. Ekeler/D. Montgomery (Bossman)
If you would have looked at this matchup back in week 1 you would have said it was easy a Bossman edge because K. Williams was supposed to be a backup and D. Swift well who really knew what type of player he would be with the Eagles while A. Ekeler was viewed by many as the #2 or #3 back right behind the likes of CMC. Fast forward to today and things have definitely shifted. K. Williams has become one of the more productive backs in the league while Ekeler has been average at best. Swift has been solid and could have been really good if he would have stopped tripping at the 1 yard line and the tush push didn’t exist! Montgomery has been solid for Bossman all year long. He has lost some value with Gibbs playing so well as of late but he still was able to finish in the top 15. The potential is there for Bossman but K. Williams and Swift are in really nice spots this week. I would give the edge to them and Pack Attack.
TE: Trey McBride (Pack Attack) vs Logan Thomas (Bossman)
McBride has been outstanding for Pack Attack for the last half of the season and could be drafted as a top 5 TE next season while Logan Thomas is a TE streamer that you just hope you find the right week to start him. He is on the field a lot and he has 15 point upside so the potential is there you just have to hope to avoid the dreaded 2 point game. Thomas is a fill in for Bossman who got the terrible news that their star TE, TJ Hockenson would miss the Super Bowl due to a torn ACL. That is a big blow for Bossman! The edge at TE goes to Pack Attack.
W/R/T: Z. Flowers (Pack Attack) vs D. Robinson (Bossman)
This is another position that it wouldn’t surprise me if it was different come Sunday for both teams but for now this is what it is. Z. Flowers has been a boom or bust type of player for most of the year but has been mostly solid the past 4 games with one “bust” game where he only scored 1.35 points in Week 15. D. Robinson has come out of nowhere and been outstanding for the Rams these past 4 weeks. He has scored in double digits each week! He has a nice matchup against the Giants but Flowers is in what should be a bit more of an up tempo type of game against the Dolphins. I like Flowers and Pack Attack here.
The K/DEF/D I am just going to leave those alone but in any game and especially games that are going to be close these three positions can go a long ways towards determining the winner.
Bossman got hit hard with injuries to TJ Hockenson and J. Addison last week but if there is one team that is a master at finding guys off of free agency that perform well it is Bossman! I expect them to do the same and they may need to in order to find the win this week! This should be a fun game and it all gets started tonight with the NY Jets D for Bossman!
Good Luck Pack Attack and Bossman!
